Celebrate 💥July 4th💥 by Protecting Voting Rights
In a 6-3 decision yesterday, the extreme right wing Supreme Court majority undermined what was left of the 1965 Voting Rights Act when it ruled in an Arizona case that Republican lawmakers were free to restrict voting rights in most situations. This does not bode well for the fate of voters across the country who have been the targets of hundreds of laws proposed by Republican state legislatures over the past nine months. But we are not giving up. The fight for S1 For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act is just heating up.

Utica Voting Rights Rally on Monday
The For the People Act was filibustered in the Senate. Meanwhile, states across the nation are passing voter suppression laws. Over 20 have been passed and hundreds more bills are coming down the line. The For The People Act would stop them in their tracks.
But only if we act now. We need to show Senator Schumer that this is a fight we cannot back down from. There is overwhelming grassroots support for voting rights and we cannot let democracy be delayed. We need every single one of our IMV activists to show up in Utica this Monday, June 28th, 5-6 pm at Oneida Square (1300 Genesee Street) for our Utica Deadline for Democracy Rally.

Deadline for Democracy
More than 1200 people joined the Facebook live session with Sen. Chuck Schumer on Wednesday night to build energy and show our commitment to passing S1 For The People Act before the Fourth of July.
If you were on the call, you know there is a huge amount of energy for passing S1. No matter how hard Sen. Manchin makes it, Sen. Schumer knows he has to get it done. There is no way that this democracy can survive if Republican state legislatures have free reign at overturning elections, suppressing votes, gerrymandering districts, and otherwise undermining free and fair elections and majority rule. Our job is to encourage and support Sen. Schumer while he does the work behind the scenes over the next few weeks.
We'll have a major Deadline for Democracy Rally in Utica on Monday, June 28, 5-6 pm at Oneida Square.

IMV Meeting Tuesday 6:30 pm in Person
Well, Zoom was a thing, but are so excited to see IMV back together again in person at our June 2021 meeting on Tuesday, June 15th, 6:30-8:00 pm at Cherrywood's outdoor pavilion, 1 Cherrywood Circle, Clinton (on Route 5).
We’ll have some cake to celebrate the fourth anniversary of our decision to organize officially as the political activism group Indivisible Mohawk Valley.
Please bring a friend, new or returning to IMV, and bring diapers! Click below to see details. We can't wait to see you!

Call Today: Last Chance to #PassTheCCIA
A contingent from the IMV Climate Crisis Working Group joined NY Renews' first in-person action in over a year in Albany to push for passage of the CCIA.
IMV members should continue to call their Assembly members, Senators, Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Speaker Carl Heastie, and Gov. Cuomo and say, "Pass the CCIA now!" And at the same time tell them to pass the Teachers Fossil Fuel Divestment Act.

Take Action Today to Pass the CCIA
Two years ago, Indivisible Mohawk Valley was part of a coalition and our advocacy helped enact New York’s nation-leading climate bill, the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). This bill set ambitious goals for New York. Over the past year, the Climate Action Council and its advisory committees have been meeting to establish plans. But goals and plans are not enough. We need to implement them! And that is where the Climate and Community Investment Act (CCIA, S4264A/A6967) comes in. This bill would require companies importing or creating greenhouse gas-emitting products to pay a proportionate fee and thereby provide a revenue stream to implement the goals and plans for community investment, good, green jobs, a just transition, and consumer protection.

IMV monthly meeting Sunday
There are only three weeks left in order to push the Climate and Community Investment Act over the finish line. IMV and the Kirkland Town Democrats are hosting an in-person rally in Clinton today, May 21, 4-5 pm during our usual Honk-n-Wave for Black Lives to show our people power and the support for the CCIA following dozens of rallies held across the state on Tuesday.

Rally today for CCIA & Racial Justice
Today, Friday, from 4 -5 pm we're having a special PASS THE CCIA Rally/Silent Protest devoted to the Climate Crisis along with the Black Lives Matter stand in Clinton on the Green. We want to thank Rachel May for co-sponsoring the CCIA bill along with encouraging other legislatures to co-sponsor the bill. We will also be doing the event next Friday, May 21st, same time same place.

State Legislative Session is Heating Up
With the NY State legislative session scheduled to end June 10, NY Renews, NYS Indivisible groups, IONY (Invest in Our New York) Coalition, and the IMV Climate Crisis Workgroup are all turning their focus to the urgency of passing the CCIA (Climate & Community Investment Act).
Please join other IMV members taking action in the coming week.

Let's Prove Democracy Still Works
On Wednesday evening, President Biden called on Americans to uphold the tenets of democracy. He said, “We have to prove democracy still works, that our government still works, and we can deliver for the people."
For IMV and for Indivisibles across the country, saving democracy means the For the People Act (HR1/S1), along with making DC a state, the John Lewis Voting Rights Bill (HR4), and in order to pass those, an end to the filibuster immediately.
From Sarah Reeske: “We need Sen. Schumer to put it up for a floor vote by the end of May.”

Join IMV for our April meeting Sunday 3-5 pm
We say this every month, we know, but this is a really important meeting for all members and friends of IMV. We will devote some time to our REI (Race, Equity & Inclusion) conversation, and as usual there is a lot to discuss! We are also looking ahead to the 2021 elections and how we can be effective as campaign volunteers. Local candidates need and appreciate all the help we can offer them. We'll be more effective and impactful if we plan, organize, and coordinate together.

Meet Local Candidates on Zoom—Mon.& Tues @ 6:30 pm
We are posting this special message on a Sunday because we know you don't want to miss our two Local Candidate Meet & Greets. This is your reminder to make sure the events are on your calendar. We have a terrific lineup of candidates for you. Our goal is for every IMV activist and supporter to volunteer their time and energy on at least one local campaign in 2021.

DC Emancipation - Take Action!
Statehood for Washington, DC is critical for the 700,000 people who currently pay taxes without representation. They have no voting representative in the House and do not have the two Senators that other Americans do. It's also a racial justice issue because historically, DC has been majority Black, and this has played a role in its continued disenfranchisement. DC is still majority Black and brown and if D.C. is granted statehood, it will be the only state in the nation to have a plurality of Black residents.

Zoom with Sen. Schumer on Climate & Jobs Tonight
Indivisible NYS and NY Renews have had an amazing week of action mobilizing in support of the NY Climate & Community Investment Act (CCIA) and THRIVE.

Climate, Jobs & Justice Week of Action
It's finally here! Our joint NYS Indivisible & NY Renews Week of Action for Climate, Jobs, and Justice, April 5th-9th.

Final push on IONY, Ramping up on Climate Action
With less than a week until the New York state budget deadline, New Yorkers from across the state sent over 3,000 tweets on Wednesday calling on and Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie to fight for the Invest in Our New York Act in their negotiations with Governor Andrew Cuomo. IMV members have sent letters and helped with phonebanking for months. Let's help get this revenue bill over the finish line in the final days.

Thank Majority Leader Schumer
If you were on the Indivisible NYS call with Majority Leader Schumer on Tuesday then you know just how amazing the American Rescue Plan is for the American people.

Stay connected to IMV, your local activism group
For years IMV has been focused on very specific, large targets: resist the Trump-GOP agenda, flip NY22, win the Presidency and Senate. All along we have paid attention to local, state, and federal policy. However, with trifectas in Washington and Albany committed to passing as much legislation as quickly as possible to help people and invest in our future, there are even more issues to track. Our local grassroots group tries to focus on actions where our efforts at this time will matter or on long-term projects, such as Invest in Our NY (IONY), or the Climate & Community Investment Act (CCIA), that are game changers. Still, there is a lot going on!

Will you call Sen. Schumer & Sen. Gillibrand?
The House (with no thanks to Claudia Tenney who voted not to help Americans and our communities) passed the American Rescue Plan, a package of relief legislation based on President Biden’s proposal to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crisis. This bill represents a strong start towards finally taking these twin crises seriously. Even better, progressives in the House were able to protect some key provisions.

Phonebank to Invest in Our New York
Can you volunteer for two hours, 6-8 pm on Monday, March 1st? Sign up here. You can sign up for other Mondays in March as well, but our official IMV hosted event is March 1st. We'll be calling fellow New Yorkers, along with our Coalition allies from across the state, and asking those frequent voters to call their state legislators about the Invest in Our New York Act. IONY is a package of six bills that end tax breaks for the wealthiest New Yorkers and raises more than $50 billion to invest in our housing and healthcare, our schools and teachers, our towns and cities, our workers and youth.
