Our Values, Truths, and Actions
IMV is a group of concerned citizens who self-organize around events and projects that strengthen our bonds and community with one another while standing up peacefully and non-violently to the destructive, corrupt, and undemocratic forces in American politics. We are dedicated to championing social justice, to working to support progressive values, and to electing progressive candidates to office at every level of government. We are a civic engagement and political activism community with the goal of making political activism bite size, local, and fun.
We define those values in these ways:
Inclusion
We encourage the positive recognition of differences, regardless of identity, background, or political party. We not only include those from diverse backgrounds, we seek out their participation and welcome their voices.
Respect
We promote an environment of tolerance and fairness. We find common ground, honor good intentions, lift each other up, and work together to allow space for dissent while pursuing a shared goal. Ideas are welcomed and group participation in decision making is essential. We further respect, protect, and celebrate the democratic process and the right to vote for all.
.
Nonviolence
We channel our activism into constructive actions, respecting personal safety and property. We condemn all forms of violence and personal attack.
Our actions include…
Conversations with our members of Congress;
Phone and email campaigns;
Coordination and partnering with like-minded organizations;
Outreach to and support of marginalized groups;
Peaceful participation in town halls and rallies.
We care about…
racial justice
Because of our values, we trust Black people; we follow Black people; and, we love hard on Black people. We commit to continuous learning on how to be anti-racist and accomplices to end oppression of Black people and people of color in America.
climate justice
Because of our values, we advocate for bold solutions to the climate emergency and climate justice. Black and brown communities are impacted the most by climate change. Divesting from the fossil fuel industry is a must. America needs to rejoin the Paris Agreement.
.
healthcare justice
Because of our values, we advocate for a healthcare system in America that is inclusive, anti-racist, high-quality, affordable and available to everyone. People have bodily autonomy, which should not be legislated against.
We welcome…
and we seek…
education justice
Because of our values, we advocate for adequate and owed funding for school districts in the Mohawk Valley. We want school boards to hire more diverse teaching staff and have culturally appropriate curriculum for students.
