In Case You Missed Our Meeting on Tuesday

What a wonderful IMV meeting on Tuesday with over 45 members in attendance! Welcome to everyone who joined us for the very first time!  It was rainy and windy; many of us had our jackets on, but we still learned about the upcoming elections, who is running, and what actions we can take right now that are bite size, local, and fun.  Check out the districts are now set for this year's elections and
make your plans to vote in the Primary on June 28.  The primaries for Congress will be held on August 23.  There is early voting for both of these primaries 10 days prior to the election day.

Let's make a difference in Congress!!  Matt Castelli is a terrific candidate to run against Elise Stefanik in the new Congressional District 21!   Meet Matt Castelli on Tuesday, June 14 at 5:30 pm at The Fishing Derby site on South Washington Street in Herkimer!!  We will have petitions for you to sign or to collect more Herkimer signatures by June 25.  These petitions will give Matt a second line on the November ballott, so those people who have a hard time voting Democrat can vote for Matt instead of for Elise.  This is part of the strategy that got Anthony elected in 2018!

  • We heard from James Paul, newly elected Utica school board candidate, who thanked IMV for their support and inspired us with the story of how campaign manager Sarah Reeske and IMV volunteers helped him exceed his "win" number of 1500 in a heavily contested race.

  • Phil Bean gave us an update on our community climate social justice project, the Proctor Park Peace Park Project, that has completed its second phase.

  • Our Climate Crisis Working Group reported out all the great work that is being done and how each of us need to comment on the scoping plans. (Please comment on ALL 14 scoping plans. If you submit the NY Renews response, this will only take you about 10 minutes).

  • Maggie Reilly, (one of the co-leaders) talked about how CCWG, the largest and longest running IMV issue group, has made a name for itself across the state as a group with expertise in climate crisis organizing, showing up and providing comments at public hearings, writing letters, lobbying, and bringing together large numbers of people for organizing action every month. NY Renews is calling IMV's CCWG to learn how this is happening!

  • We also celebrated IMV’s 5th birthday with chocolate cupcakes with blue frosting. Yum!
