Are you ready for Summer?
Are you feeling overwhelmed? Yes, breathe, relax and look around. You are not alone we are Indivisible and we are together.
This weekend is Juneteenth and World Refugee Day.
It is also Father’s Day, and there are graduations and weddings, anniversaries and reunions.
It is already election season with early voting Primaries for Democratic and Republican Governor and Lieutenant Governor, Primary for Republican US Senator, and local mayors and some town council seats are being held this week. The State wide Primary Voting day for Governor, LT Governor, State Assembly, and US Senate is June 28.
We will be voting in an August Primary in State Senate and Congressional races. There are new districts, few Democrats are being primaried, and we have a lot of education to learn and to deliver to our neighbors. For now, VOTE.
Opportunities to phone bank, canvas and meet the candidates will be coming all summer and fall. These are first steps.
If you are interested in a more active role, all the boards of Elections are looking for workers, for June, August, and November elections. Click here to learn about becoming a poll worker.
Next weekend is Utica Pride. You are invited to join the festivities between 11 and 4 on Saturday, June 25 at Handshake City, at the corner of Whitesboro and Genesee Streets. The festival will extend up Genesee Street to include The Compound, The Tailor and the Cook, Utica Roasters and more!
Stay tuned for upcoming plans. We are expecting more rulings from the Supreme Court and are likely to be doing more rallies and gatherings.
Last weekend we had a Fantastic March for Our Lives in Utica. We got great press coverage and had people join us for the first time and many who have been gathering with us since 2017. Thank you to all who came and stood with us in front of the Utica State Office building. We had teachers and students, parents and children, seniors and babies. Our community is strong and resilient. Truly Indivisible.
There are amazing stories coming from the rallies and marches. Jill Farnham-Us has been standing with other IMV folks at 430 Court Street for the past 3 weeks. (It has only been three weeks since the shooting in Uvalde, TX on May 24). Every week someone stops to talk about their belief in the 2nd Amendment, and their fear that our Stand for an End to Gun Violence will somehow encroach on their rights. All three of these gentlemen began the conversation with the assumption that we had irreconcilable differences. By the end of the visits, we were able to shake hands and part amicably.
The Stand for an End to Gun Violence will continue through the summer on Thursday afternoons from 4 – 5:30 at 430 Court Street to be visible to the Saranac Thursday crowd. There is adequate parking at the AAA building (also the office of Congressperson Claudia Tenney). The sidewalk is wide, with room on the side for chairs if needed. The traffic is respectful, and you can expect to see someone who wants to talk.
Fridays will be the gatherings in Clinton on the Green for Ukraine and Black Lives Matter.
There is still the need to remind our elected officials that we want action on Climate Change. Click for the link to this week’s actions.
