This is our first big action to educate the public about Rep. Williams and his MAGA extremism.  It's GO TIME!

Why We Need to Show Up for Williams' Town Halls

NY22 Rep. Brandon Williams votes with Marjorie Taylor Green 96% of the time--and she is not a resident of our purple central NY district   Instead he should align with his NY22 constituents.  And so far, most of his constituents know very little about him.  They probably don't know that Williams has not even moved to NY22, in spite of his campaign pledge to do so.  If he did live in our district, maybe he would realize that, unlike MTG, 88% of voters in the 22nd district oppose slashing Social Security benefits, with more than three-quarters of voters strongly opposed to cuts.

A recent Data for Progress poll, which surveyed 548 likely voters between March 28 and April 3, asked voters about whether Congress should should raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans to protect Social Security. Over 82% of voters supported the tax increase on the ultra wealthy if the alternative is cutting benefits--and that includes 97% of Democrats and 71% of Republicans.

Have you ever heard Rep. Williams say that the super wealthy should pay their fair share?  Not once.  Has he proposed increasing taxes on millionaires and billionaires?  Never.  Rep. Williams and his MAGA extremist colleagues are not listening to the voters.

We expect our member of Congress to protect Social Security and Medicare by raising taxes on the super wealthy who can afford to pay their fair share.
We expect our member of Congress to protect children in schools from assault weapons.
We expect our member of Congress to protect basic civil liberties like the freedom to access abortion and other health care.
So far, Rep. Williams is failing on all counts.
Let's show up and make some good trouble!
(Our rallies are always peaceful and non violent.  That's a core value for us and we never waiver from it.)

So bring your sign (and don't worry if you don't have one --our volunteers made plenty at the sign making party on Friday), and show up in Chittenango and Rome to make your voice heard.

Public Pressure Works: Climate in NYS is the Latest Example

Sometimes it seems like we are mobilizing and mobilizing and there's no impact.  But just in the past week we have seen some amazing results!  Check out this update on S6030/A6039 from Maggie Reilly of IMV's Climate Crisis Workgroup:

"Thank you to all who participated in our call relay to protect NY's landmark climate law and keep S6030/A6039 out of the budget! Over the past several days, New Yorkers made thousands of calls, and our public pressure campaign made a big difference:

Yesterday, it was announced on Twitter that the methane accounting change in the bills--which would have drastically rolled back the CLCPA's pollution reduction goals--is off the table for the budget negotiations! Governor Hochul and the fossil fuel industry picked a fight with the wrong movement. Here is the official NY Renews statement.

“This rapid change from the Governor is because of the powerful and swift response from the climate and environmental justice movement in NYS--including our thousands of calls, among other powerful tactics. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for standing with us and making calls. I’m so grateful and proud to fight alongside you all."

We should enjoy this huge win, and then go back to pushing our legislators to pass important climate legislation and keep out other false solutions that will weaken the Climate Act.  And we can take heart from this recent success: Political activism works. Public pressure works. When we show up for real action in big enough numbers, we can sway our elected representatives.

Final Reminder: Take This One Action Now

We hope that those who celebrate are having a Happy Easter, and we we wish a Happy Passover and Ramadan Mubarek to those who have been observing in recent days. To all, we make this request:

Email
IndivisibleMV@gmail.com right now and let us know that you'll be attending:

1) the Good Trouble Town Hall Rally & Town Hall in Chittenango tomorrow,
2) the Good Trouble Town Hall Rally & Town Hall in Rome on Tuesday,
3) or both.

Our activism together makes a difference.  We are the ones who are going to weaken Brandon Williams by showing the public what he really believes and how he really votes.  We are the ones who are going to pressure him to vote in OUR interests, even if means he has to go against his own party (never a comfortable position).  We are the ones.  Because we are the ones who will show up and make our voices heard.

Democracy is not a spectator sport.
