Celeste Friend for Mayor Canvassing Orientation
Celeste's campaign team is inviting all her volunteers, friends, and supporters to join the Canvassing Team! In IMV we have long believed in and practiced neighborhood canvassing as a way of listening to and respecting voters, engaging people in community and civic life, and impacting elections in ways that align with our values and improve all of our lives. Celeste's campaign reminds us that:
Canvassing increases Voter Turnout
According to a study conducted by the American Political Science Review, canvassing increases voter turnout by an impressive [and essential] 7-10%.
Some Voters are Persuadable
A report by the Analyst Institute demonstrated that face-to-face interactions during canvassing can increase voter support for progressive candidates by 6.6%.
We encourage everyone to sign up today for a canvassing orientation August 12th, Aug. 24th, or Sept. 7th. The sooner the better, because there are a lot of voters to meet in every ward in Utica!

Rebuilding the Village Needs Support for Youth Summer Program
Rebuilding the Village's Patrick L Johnson Community Youth Center is running a summer program, free of charge, for children and youth in Cornhill whose parents could not afford the cost of the various summer programs available here in Utica. This program has been supported by IMV members since the summer of 2020 and we ask you to contribute once again. According to Freddie Hamilton, the program leverages Utica School District lunches and Oneida County funds as available but there are needs to get through the summer since the program operates every day. About 25 children between the ages of 8 and 16 are currently participating.
If you are able to help, checks may be mailed to:
Rebuilding the Village, Inc.
40 Faxton Street
Utica, New York 13501
Or you may donate online: https://www.rebuildingthevillageutica.com/
Thank you!
One Final Reminder
In 2024, a handful of districts in New York will once again play a critical role in determining whether the House is under control of MAGA Republicans who represent Trump or people who represent voters and protect democracy. NY22 is at the top of that list. That means we have a lot of work to do, and now's the time to start!
Please invite your Democratic friends in NY22 to join you for the NY22 Congressional Forum on Thursday and be sure they also register in advance. We can't wait to see you on Thursday!
Democracy is not a spectator sport.
