Knock, Knock, Who's There?
Door Knocking is How We Win
Earlier this week you may have seen the news about one of the first major polls for NY22. The poll found MAGA Republican extremist Brandon Williams ahead of Francis Conole by about 5 points. Here is what our IMV friend and one of our favorite political candidates, Sarah Klee Hood, said on Twitter in response:
"Polls don’t vote. Are you disheartened by what you saw yesterday? Good. Pretend the polls were even worse than that & put in the volunteer work to get it going in the right direction. The undecideds % was still in the teens. Are you going to knock on their door & talk to them?"
In 2018 knocking doors was what allowed Democrat Anthony Brindisi to defeat new incumbent Claudia Tenney in an area that went for Trump just two years earlier by 16 points When we couldn't knock doors in 2020, we weren't able to pull off that win again. But this year we CAN knock doors. The question is: Will enough of us do so to make the difference?
To date, IMV has not had enough people coming to our regular weekly canvasses to make that difference in Oneida county. We simply need more volunteers. You have made a significant impact in the past and we need you again.
We're working closely with the Democratic campaign office for Oneida County just as we did in 2018. Training will be provided at each canvassing event for those who need it. All are welcome to volunteer, regardless of their level of experience. You'll be provided walking lists, palm cards, and all the other materials you may need. IMV has the "magic slate cards" that everyone is talking about. Bring a friend or find one at the start of the canvass event so that you don't have to go out alone. Pick a daytime event if you don't like the early evening shifts. Just please show up. We don't want NY22 to be part of the reason that we lose the House in 2022 to fascist leaning extremists.
A full list of upcoming events is available at http://www.ConoleForCongress.com/events

Do You Use Twitter?
Twitter matters to politicians and the media. It is the first platform that both journalists and politicians post updates on as well as check for breaking news and trends to get a pulse and comment on it.
In NY22, the activist groups want to gather our Twitter users together so we can be more effective collectively in responding to events and issues in our district, shape the narrative about our district, respond to and support elected representatives, and get media attention.
If you currently have a Twitter account, please fill out the form at the link below. We will be following up with you soon about an upcoming operation on Twitter to help the NY22 story going into Election Day, and we would love your participation: Here's the link: https://forms.gle/3SJcDTzGZq9BQNuw9
Envelope Stuffing for Merima
Thank you to everyone who came on Thursday to help stuff envelopes for Merima! There are still a bunch left to go. Please come to 238 Genesee Street in Utica on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 3:30-6:00 pm to help finish up. This is a great activity for those who are unable to walk/canvass.
Knock, Knock, Who's There?
Potential voters.
But many will not think about voting in a midterm because they don't pay attention to politics. Many people barely realize there is an election in a non-presidential year. Some people don't think voting matters, or that their vote matters--until they hear it directly from someone who cares enough to come to their door and ask for their vote.
We've been talking to voters in the few weeks who've invited us into their homes to sit down and go over the slate card so they understand what and who is on the ballot. They may be confused about what district they are in now, and who the candidates are. (And frankly, very few of us aren't confused after all that redistricting in the past six months). Many, many voters have thanked us for the slate cards we've handed to them in the past few weeks. They are glad to learn about the districts, the candidates, and the dates and locations of early voting.
Please, please volunteer to canvass this week. There are registration links below. If you can't go out knocking doors, please consider being a driver for a knocker who has a driving turf. If you can't do either then phonebank on Tuesdays.
Have you seen this cool "Be a Voter" message? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=za6QHEQw990
And if you're reading this email, then are you just a voter? Or are you an activist? If you really want to decide what's possible. Then don't just be a voter. Be a VOTE GETTER. Knock Doors.
Democracy is not a spectator sport.
