Join Our December 13th Zoom Meeting

IMV's December 2022 Meeting This Tuesday

Congratulations to Sen. Warnock, and all the Indivisibles in Georgia, across the country, and all of you who volunteered to help with the runoff in Georgia by texting, donating, writing, and calling!  We won the 51st seat! And while we are still stinging in central New York from the loss of congressional seats, in November, we have an amazing Senate majority leader who has been and remains a leader working with the President, and a Governor is who head down and doing the work of governing.  Onward!

We are looking forward to seeing you for our last meeting of the year on Zoom Tuesday, Dec. 13th, 7-8 pm. We have a quick and simple agenda to preview the new Indivisible Guide for 2023 and what it means for us here in our congressional districts with Republican MOCs, Democratic senators, and lots of state and local work to do as well.  As usual, we will be admitting from a Zoom waiting room to make sure the meeting is safe and secure for everyone.  Here's the link for the Zoom meeting:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87240381633

How to Engage with Indivisibles from Across the Country

Two ideas for you if you feel like you have the energy to do more right now:

1
Sign up for the Indivisible Truth Brigade. Propaganda, false characterizations, intentionally misleading messages, and outright lies threaten our democracy and even our lives. People believe sources they trust! Sign up to learn how to fight disinformation in a way that drives change and protects our communities from the threat of extremism.

Register for the Truth Brigade BIG TRUTHS BIG PARTY on Wednesday, December 14 at 6:30pm ET/3:30pm PT. Join us for our final Truth Brigade call of 2022! We’ll celebrate our successes, talk about Twitter, preview our plans for 2023, and launch a very special customizable Truth Brigade Thank You Truth-Tellers message campaign for the holidays.

2. Do you live in a rural area? Click here to join Indivisible's National Rural Program. We have resources and calls specifically for our rural Indivisibles where you can learn more about strategies and issues specific to Indivisibles living in rural areas. If you want an idea of what that looks like, check out our agenda and notes from previous meetings.

Actions to Take for the Final Session

The “final session” or “final legislative session” is the period between an election and the inauguration of the new Congress.

This year’s final session is critically important because it is the last period where we will hold a Democratic trifecta for at least the next two years. With Republican control of the House, we know they will block any attempt at substantive legislation Democrats push forward. We must do as much as possible in this time period to deliver the Democratic agenda.

In their first act of the Final Session last week, the Senate passed the Respect for Marriage Act, and the House passed a reconciled version yesterday and sent it to President Biden to enshrine national protections for marriage equality into law. The next thing they absolutely have to address is a December 16 deadline to approve government funding and avert a shutdown. But there is still more to be done. We need them to work faster and harder so that they can pass more.

To achieve this, Congress must stay in session seven days a week until the new Congress is seated. If we can convince Congress to do this, we have the opportunity to achieve priorities such as: lifting the debt ceiling through reconciliation, passing viable bipartisan legislation like the Electoral Count Act, and securing progressive wins.

We cannot let this crucial period of control go to waste. Here’s how you can help:

Again, please check out the action guide for the final session and take action!

About that New Indivisible Guide for 2023

As we heard on the Indivisible National Activist Call last night, what it means to have a Republican in charge of the House is that person will be controlled by the MAGA extremists and their agenda.  That sounds scary.  And yet, the most terrible things that the House passes can be stopped.  Stopped by the Democratic Senate and stopped by President Biden's veto pen.

Even though we don't need to be terrified, we also have to understand that transformative progressive legislation is on hold for the next few years. So, what can we do?

1) Make MAGA Republicans pay the price for their extremism, by continuing to call attention to what they are doing and making them toxic to people who value the well being of their families and who treasure their personal freedoms.

2) Help people see and feel the urgency and the possibility of an alternative--a coalition that will fight for their well-being and their personal freedoms.  We can't change or influence our MAGA Republican MoCs, but we can try to peel away some of their supporters and build onramps toward our movement

if you can, take a few minutes to read The NEW INDIVISIBLE GUIDE before you come to our December Zoom on Tuesday. You'll be more prepared for the conversation and you'll have questions and ideas. Maybe those who are on the CAFE call this morning will get that conversation going... There's a lot of good stuff in there for Indivisible Mohawk Valley since we have Republican MOCs in NY 22 and NY21.

See you on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 7 pm on Zoom! Link is here: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87240381633

Thanks for all you do as a local progressive political activist.  You SHOW that democracy is not a spectator sport!
