GOTV: Five Actions for You This Weekend
1. Help out IMV with Harvest on the Hill tomorrow We still need candy for our "Kids Vote" table. If you can donate some, please drop off today at 19 Proctor Ave, Clinton OR bring candy to our table at James Street and Brinckerhoff Ave in Utica 11:30 am-1:30 pm. If you can volunteer, even better! We especially need volunteers between 1:30 and 5:00 pm. Please join us--it will be a lot of fun.
2. Vote! Early voting starts tomorrow. Drive friends and family to the early voting locations. Text friends and remind them to vote.
3. Sign up now for Indivisible's Halloween Eve Unrepresentative Text Party to hold Brandon Williams Accountable, Monday, Oct 30, 6-8 pm. We're going to join together on Zoom and text as many voters as we can to let them know about Williams' record and just how scary he is for NY22.
4. Help Caroline Reale get re-elected (County Leg). Canvass for her on Sunday October 29th at 3:30 PM We will meet on the New Hartford Village Green, across from the NH Volunteer Fire Department to walk local turfs and mobilize democratic voters, reminding them early voting has arrived! 5. Volunteer for GOTV for Celeste Friend for Mayor. There are many ways to help even if you haven't been involved yet. Perhaps most important is "lit drops." This can be done during the weekdays with a friend. You don't have to knock doors or talk to voters. And we need a LOT of volunteers to cover all the ground before Nov. 7th. Here is Celeste's GOTV volunteer form. If Celeste wins, Utica and Oneida County will be forever changed in more ways than we can count. Please help make it happen!
What Else You Need to Know
So you probably heard that the Republicans, fatigued and frustrated with themselves, finally elected a House Speaker on their fifth try. Brandon Williams proved his MAGA extremist bona fides by voting yes on Trump's guy, Mike Johnson, a Christian nationalist who denies that fossil fuels contribute to climate change, has been involved in hate group and anti-LGBTQ activities, has sought a national abortion ban, and helped Donald Trump's effort to overturn the 2020 election. Oh, and he wants to slash Social Security and Medicare. So...he's pretty much a match for Williams' MAGA extremist beliefs and votes.
Indivisible Mohawk Valley released the following statement on Rep. Williams’ vote, along with the rest of the Republican caucus, to make Congressman Mike Johnson the next Speaker of the House, following the ousting of Congressman Kevin McCarthy:
“'Rep. Brandon Williams is a follower, not a leader. His vote for Congressman Mike Johnson shows us that he supports the MAGA wish list that Johnson wants to impose on all of us. If anyone doubted Williams’ commitment to the MAGA extremists serving in Congress, here’s your sign.'
Rep. Johnson has faced criticism during his time in Congress for leading the effort in the House to overturn the 2020 election, sponsoring a federal Don’t Say Gay bill, voting to cut healthcare for veterans, sponsoring resolutions to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, and supporting a total ban on abortion."
We have a lot of work to do to make sure every NY22 voter who goes to the polls in 2024 knows just how dangerous Williams, Johnson, and the MAGAs are. And we plan to do that work in the coming year.

Looking ahead, we have our annual IMV Fall Fiesta Post Election Celebration on Sunday, Oct. 12th, 1:00-3:00 pm. We want to fill the room up with lots of socializing, tasty food from Rio Grande, and celebrating all the work we did together this year. 1. Thanks to everyone who contributed money, stamps, and time to help us reach our goal of sending 5000 targeted postcards to voters in key election districts. As of this morning those postcards are MAILED!
