Time to Knock Doors

Our Plan to Win in 2022

This weekend, rest from your labors.  Seriously, enjoy the fresh air and have some fun this weekend in honor of your own labor and the labor of others.

Then, get ready to roll up your sleeves.  It's clear that many more voters than expected are feeling more energized and motivated to go to the polls to vote for candidates who will protect their freedoms to live, vote, love, marry, and plan families as they wish.  If we respect them by communicating with them directly on the phones, in letters to the editor and postcards, and AT THE DOORS, they will turn out to vote against the Trump extremists who want to take away our freedoms.  So just as we did in the 2018 midterms, we need to #KnockAllTheDoors and do all the other work to identify, mobilize, and turn out voters in November.

Here's the scoop:

1) There was a positive and fun NY22 Unity event sponsored by Caz Call to Action last Sunday.  Everyone who attended agreed that Chol Majok's speech was inspiring, and that we are now all united behind primary winner Fran Conole.  Plus, we learned that our friend and former Brindisi field organizer, Jon Lipe, will be consulting on the Conole campaign.  Jon knows how to win Oneida and Madison county through effective field (direct voter contact--doors, phones, etc.), so we are more confident than ever.

2) Our local campaign office will be in downtown Utica (not Washington Mills, as we originally thought).  It will be opened by Dylan Black of the Gov. Hochul campaign, but will serve as campaign central for the whole Democratic effort this fall.

3) IMV will be central to winning Oneida County for Democrats. We will host five canvasses each week hosted around the county: New Hartford, Utica, Clinton, Rome, and Whitesboro.  The launch of this massive project relying completely on volunteers will be this Wednesday, Sept 7th, at 5:00 pm n front of Sarah's house, 19 Proctor Ave, Clinton.  The more the merrier, and all experience levels are welcome!

Climate Crisis Work Group Message

As the climate crisis worsens, extreme events become more frequent. In our area that often means stronger storms. NYRenews has put together the following guide for Hurricanes and BlackoutsWe will all need to adapt to the climate changes that have already happened, as well as advocating for climate legislation and working to elect representatives who address climate change.

Make sure you talk with family and friends about the significant components of the climate bill that Democrats passed into law last month.  It's an example of how we can impact the future positively when we elect Democrats.  Think what more could be accomplished with more Democrats in office at every level of government.  It's not that they are always perfect on climate, but they are willing to listen, and we can hold them accountable. Electing leaders who work on climate is a top priority for the coming months.

Sept 8th Conole Fundraiser Canceled

The fundraiser for Congressional candidate Francis Conole scheduled for September 8 has been canceled. It will be rescheduled as a Meet and Greet event at a later date, with no door charge.

If you already signed up for the event and would like a refund, please contact Dan Nickelson, 636-222-3698 or dan@conoleforcongress.com

Dan Butterman for Assembly

If you live in the 122nd Assembly district or volunteer to canvass in that district, you can help flip a seat from red (Brian Miller) to blue!   Dan Buttermann is the endorsed Democratic candidate, and he's everywhere.  He attended IMV's potluck picnic in August and will be at the Kirkland Town Democrat's Gathering on the Green in September (Saturday, Sept. 17th, 1-3 pm on the Clinton Village Green).

Dan is having some additional events including a fundraiser hosted by Caroline Reale and Sarah Klee Hood at Piggy Pat's in New Hartford on Sept. 21. Stay tuned for more info. He'll also be at the Waterville Standard Bakery on Saturday, Oct. 8th, 9-11 am, so you'll want to stop by for delicious pastries and meet him there.

Marianne Buttenschon won the Utica-Rome 119th district fairly easily in 2018 when Anthony Brindisi resigned to run for Congress. On the other hand, Dan faces a significant challenge to flip a reddish purple district that covers more rural areas even though it includes the town of New Hartford.  Let's make sure that ALL of Oneida County is represented by a Democrat in the State Assembly.  Help Dan win!

IMV September 13th Meeting

Make sure your calendar is marked for Tuesday, Sept. 13th, 7:30-8:30 pm.  We'll be meeting on Zoom for one hour of focused work on how to win in 2022.  Last night several of us participated in Indivisible's Rural Caucus Training with Anat Shaker-Osario.  We'll discuss some of her "Words to Win By" messaging at our meeting.  You can get a preview from this Indivisible "Protect Our Freedoms" messaging guide here

Have a wonderful Labor Day Weekend.  Kick it off right by joining CAFE Friday this morning, or the Ukraine Democracy rally in Clinton this afternoon.  Then we'll see you at the IMV Canvass Launch on Wednesday!
