This Labor Day; Honor Unions, Elect Dems

What Labor Day Means to Us

Labor Day weekend is a wonderful time to spend relaxing with loved ones.  While you do that, please make sure that your family and friends understand why the labor movement is behind Democrats in this election. From Shawn Fain (UAW President) to SEIU and AFL-CIO and from teachers unions (AFT and NEA) to IBEW electrical workers--all endorsed the Harris/Walz ticket at the DNC. Locally, more than 20 unions have endorsed John Mannion for Congress.  Workers in America know which party, candidates, and elected leaders have their backs...and which party can't wait to kick them in the teeth.  We think SEIU says it well, and so does IBEW in their statement:

“The choice this November will be a stark one for working people, and especially for union members. On one side, we have a proven track record of success and job creation. On the other side is someone who didn’t pass anything except a massive tax cut for corporations and the wealthy.  Our members will vote for the IBEW, and that is a vote for Kamala Harris."

IMV wishes a happy weekend to all union workers --and all people who are working hard to put food on the table for their families.  We especially honor the union members we've met over the years knocking doors for Democrats to save the the Affordable Healthcare Act and working to raise pay and improve working conditions.

Let's dedicate our efforts in the coming days to our solidarity with the labor movement.  Together we can defeat MAGA and build a Democratic coalition focused on creating good jobs at wages that build the middle class, protecting the health and safety of workers, and making the billionaires and corporations pay their fair share.

Weekend of Action Starts Sept. 6 with Honk for Harris

We encourage everyone to knock doors this weekend, but if you are out of town, then please just mark your calendar for next weekend. Sept. 6-8 is "Doors2Debate Weekend of Action" for Indivisibles across the country.  We're kicking it off locally with our:

All in for Harris Honk 'n Wave
Friday, Sept. 6th, 4-5 pm
Corner of Burrstone & French Road
Park at Utica University
Bring signs for Democratic candidates (We will have extras)

On Saturday, Sept. 7th at 9am, please join a big and joyful group of walkers with James Meyers for State Senate in Rome's Honor America Days Parade. If you've never marched in that parade, you've been missing out.  It is huge and fun and full of Rome, NY patriotism.  (We'll have final meet up details in the email next week).

Then, check the calendar below for opportunities to knock doors for Democrats.  Either schedule via Mobilize to canvass from the Utica HQ, or sign up now and get started with ten (just 10!) doors in your own neighborhood with Neighbor2Neighbor.

Sweet Social & Canvass Launch with IMV

Join Indivisible Mohawk Valley at our September monthly meeting that will be at Cafe Florentine. This will be the best canvass launch ever because everyone who canvasses will get a free dessert, so grab a canvassing buddy and come join us.

First time canvassers are welcome! We'll pair you up with an experienced one and teach you how to talk to voters about supporting Harris/Walz and all Democrats on the ballot. We'll be talking to friendly voters.
Come as early as 1:30 to have your choice of desserts. At 2 pm we'll begin our agenda. We'll socialize and do a brief overview of what IMV members have been doing, celebrate everyone's hard work & published LTEs, preview our upcoming actions, thank everyone and then get to canvassing. We'll do a short training for first time canvassers. We'll be knocking on doors in the Whitestown/New Hartford/NY Mills area.

If you want to come to pick up a bundle of handouts to do Neighbor2Neighbor, we'll have them available too. Sign up for N2N here!

The Latest on IMV Gear Plus Harris/Walz Lawn Signs

Many of you have been asking about Harris/Walz Lawn signs.  First, you can buy a sign on the campaign website for $20 here, and you're making a contribution to the Harris campaign. We do expect that there will soon be signs available for volunteers who show up for canvass shifts at Oneida County Dem HQ in Utica--but probably not for a couple weeks at least.

We're also excited to see that a local vendor has made an Indivisible Mohawk Valley online store so you can order gear to wear at events or for door knocking, or just to show pride in your IMV affiliation.  Check out the store: http://www.imvshopnow.com and wear your gear with pride when you join us at our Sweet Social and Canvass Launch on Sept. 22

Take a breather this weekend if you can. Then we will be full steam ahead for the final 63 days of this critical election. We'll knock all the doors, write all the postcards, and make all the calls. Because...

Democracy is not a spectator sport.
