We are coming up on a very busy six weeks ahead of the NY22 Primary Election. Below you'll see a request to volunteer for an IMV member running for school board, and our annual request for volunteers to table at June events in Utica as part of our overall effort to register voters and encourage them to plug in and vote.

We also have a big canvass event planned with the Sarah Klee Hood campaign on Saturday, May 18th.  We want to make sure Democratic voters VOTE in the primary in June.  Please look over your calendar and see what you can do with IMV!

Let's Help Colt Brumm for Holland Patent School Board

IMV member Colt Brumm is running for school board in Holland Patent.  He needs 450-500 votes to win in the election on Tuesday, May 21st.  In true IMV fashion (voter contact matters!) Colt has knocked on 300 doors already and is getting a good reception. Here are some of the ways that we want to support Colt in the last couple of weeks before the election:

1) Talk to, call, or text friends, co-workers, and family who live in the district about Colt--and remind them to vote!  The district covers the following communities:
Holland Patent, Floyd, Stittville, Prospect, Western, Hinkley, Barneveld, and some of Marcy
2) Phone bank for Colt on Tuesday, May 14th.  This is a virtual phone bank 6-7:30 pm.
3) GOTV Phone Bank for Colt on Monday, May 20th.  This is a virtual phone bank 6-7:30 pm

Let's show Colt our support!

We Need Volunteers for Summer Events

Once again, IMV plans to table at key events both to register voters and also to talk about the importance of voting and the political activism we do.  We have stickers, tattoos, voter engagement boards, and more.  We just need volunteers to help staffing our table.  If you can volunteer for 2-3 hours, please email IndivisibleMV@gmail.com and let us know when.  Thank you!

Saturday, June 1st Utica Pride Fest 10am-4pm  MVCC Utica
Sunday, June 9th 12-6pm  Jewtica. JCC, Utica
Saturday, June 22nd, 12-5  Juneteenth (Utica)

Knock Doors for Sarah Klee Hood with IMV

Please join IMV members for a Primary Kickoff Canvass event with Sarah Klee Hood on Saturday, May 18th at 200pm. We will have literature and walk lists.  We'll meet up in the parking lot at the New Hartford Shopping Mall (120 Genesee Street, New Hartford), near Nicky Doodles.

Let's start talking to Democratic voters about why Sarah Klee Hood would make a great NY22 Rep in Congress, and how important it is to vote in the 2024 primary election.  Bring a friend to drive/walk with you, or we'll pair you up with a canvass partner when you arrive.

Climate Crisis Workgroup Actions

Great News! The Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act (S4246-b/A5322-b) has moved through committees in the NYS legislature, and is very close to coming for a vote...The Bigger Better Bottle Bill (A6353-b) is a hot item right now too, which complements and reinforces any packaging reduction plan. But the powers lobbying to keep making plastic pollution are fighting hard to stop them.

 ACTION 1
That's why we need you to take a quick action today to let your Assembly member and the Speaker of the Assembly know your support for it!  You can use our easy, brand new action to email them a quick note of support here and you can make a call to their offices here as well.

ACTION 2
Beyond Plastics Advocacy Lobby Day: Do you want to join in creating a cleaner, greener, healthier, more sustainable New York by helping to reduce single-use plastic  packaging and advance reuse and refill?

If so, please RSVP now to join an in-person Advocacy Day and  Rally in Albany with "New York is NOT disposable" on Tuesday, May 14  from 10am-4:00PM. We will meet with our state legislators to urge them to pass the Packaging  Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act and the Bigger Better Bottle Bill.

Congratulations to Our LTE Writers Plus More LTE Workshops

We had someexcellent LTEs in the past week--including Carolyn McAleese, whoseDaily Sentinel letter informed voters about the upcoming primary election date.  Sue Timian wrote about Democratic principles and policies she likes and why they are good for all of us (and some of the unpopular Republican positions that threaten harm). Allegra Cullen and Judy Jerome had great letters in the Syracuse Post-Standard that discussed Sarah Klee-Hood’s strong commitment to unions and renewable energy and Brandon Williams's terrible town hall respectively.

Are you willing to write a Letter to the Editor?  Check out the next LTE workshops:

Please Take Action with Neighbor2 Neighbor NOW

So far, only a few IMV members have signed up forNeighbor2Neighbor, Indivisible's voter contact tool for the 2024 election.  This tool has been tested and proven to work in moving the needle on critical election results. But, it will only work if we use it.  We need YOU to sign up today so we are ready to take action in the months ahead.  Please click the link and sign up right now.  Thank you!

Please sign up for Neighbor2Neighbor.

Remember, we want as many IMVers as possible pre-registered for Indivisible Action’s version of our highly effective, community conversation program -- Neighbor2Neighbor. If you want to have the biggest impact on voter turnout, this is the most effective way we’ve found to mobilize community members. Our local launch is planned for early June.

We Met Our Match Thanks to You

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the April-May Indivisible Match campaign. IMV met the $500 match weeks ahead of the May 31 deadline.  Our IMV members and friends rock!  That's a lot of postcards, stamps, room rentals, signs, slate cards, and other materials that we can afford thanks to your generosity.  We are an all volunteer local political activism group and we "punch above our weight" in getting the attention of elected officials and doing voter contact to impact elections.

Planned Parenthood Event in Clinton

Katheryn Doran is hosting a Planned Parenthood of Greater New York Vote PAC fundraiser in Clinton on Tuesday, June 4th, 5:30-7:00 pm.  RSVP for the event HERE. They are inviting some of their PAC endorsed candidates to the event, as well as the PAC's executive leaders.

PPGNY Votes PAC wins competitive elections by appealing to voters who believe in the importance of our mission. State and local races can be determined by only a few hundred votes, and these wins help New York become the national leader this moment requires. Nearly two dozen states across the country have banned or severely restricted abortion access since Roe v. Wade was overturned. Your support will allow us to continue our winning streak, cementing New York's position as a leading abortion and reproductive health access state.  Please RSVP if you can support this important cause!

What's At Stake in 2024

The next six months will determine not just who represents our congressional districts or state assembly/senate districts, but also the fate of the country.  Republicans have told us what they want to do with their power if elected.  It's an outright and unabashed disavowal of democratic principles, individual freedoms and rights (for everyone except the super wealthy and white Christian male elites), and the rule of law that has been a core ideal since the founding of the country.  The only thing standing between them and their fossil fueled frenzy for Christian nationalist MAGA Trumpian corporate kleptocracy is....People like us.

We are the ones we've been waiting for.  And so it's time to roll up our sleeves and do the work. There are activities and actions for everyone, regardless of whether you are more of a letter writer, a door-knocker, or a sign maker.  Maybe you like to enjoy June festivals while registering voters. Perhaps calling voters to remind them to vote in a school board election is your jam.  Please sign up and show up!  No matter what else you do right now, sign up for Neighbor2Neighbor.

Democracy is not a spectator sport.
