IMV Healthcare Group Pushes for NY Health Act
New Yorkers deserve a health care system that is patient-centered, not profit-centered. The NY Health Act actually has a shot in 2022, and its success depends on political activism in the next few weeks. Andrea Stewart-Cousins has committed to bringing it to the floor of the state senate. BUT we will need to 'do our thing' as grassroots Indivisible activists--calling, letters to the editor, and lobby visits. Do you have questions? Concerns? Want to know more about how New York can be the start to an amazing national ripple?
IMV's Healthcare group has invited Ursula Rozum, Co-director of the NY Health Campaign and staffer for PNHP to join our first Healthcare Group Meeting of the year on Wednesday, Jan. 5th, at 6:30 pm. Join on Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88253056704
If the U.S. had a public health and universal healthcare infrastructure comparable to those in other high-income countries, an estimated 40% of COVID deaths could have been avoided in the last year. Tens of thousands of lives could have been saved.

Utica "Don't Get Cold Feet" Rally on Jan. 6th
On January 6, 2022, IMV will do what we do best: rally and call attention for our elected leaders to meet this moment. Here's our message: Senators Schumer and Gillibrand, don’t get cold feet: pass the Freedom to Vote Act, John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and Build Back Better Act!
Join us in front of Utica College (corner of Burrstone Road and Champlin Ave) at 3-4 pm for our “Don’t Get Cold Feet, Democrats” rally. You can also participate through our collection of warm socks, which will be donated to help our neighbors at the Morrow Warming Center in Utica as well as for soldiers who lay their lives on the line for our democracy. $6 buys one pair for our neighbors AND one pair for a soldier. Contribute today to Indivisible Mohawk Valley through our ActBlue link: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/coldfeet
Send any questions to indivisiblemv@gmail.com.
We've been pressing on Congress to pass these bills for years now, and these may be our next chances. Voting Rights. Stopping election subversion. Making child care affordable for families. Climate crisis protection. Health care and prescriptions people can afford. Jobs and economic growth for everyone. These are the things we need, the things we deserve, the things we DEMAND. Together, we will win.
Happy New Year!
2022 is for Activism, Starting NOW
Let's remember that 2021, as challenging as it has been, was a year of tremendous accomplishments for President Biden:
The $1.9 trillion Covid relief deal.
The $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill.
Getting 72 percent of American adults fully vaccinated.
Getting federal judges appointed and confirmed.
An economy where the unemployment rate has dropped to 4.2 percent.
End of US participation in 20 years of war in Afghanistan, and the re-opening of doors to refugees.
Restoration of competence and normalcy to the executive branch of the federal government.
Yes, it's time to press for the democracy bills, Build Back Better, and an end to the filibuster. It's time to pass the NY Health Act and find CCIA in NY. There are legislative/issue and electoral challenges ahead for us, AND we need to oust Claudia Tenney 2022.
Still, the core of what we do is not any one campaign, whether for CCIA or for a congressional seat. Who we are as a grassroots progressive activism community is a community. We are people who share values of respect, inclusion, and justice, not just for ourselves, but for others. We seek to build social and economic systems and structures that are caring, empowering, sustainable, and equitable. Let's refocus on that in the weeks ahead. Here's how:
Stop by for CAFE Fridays where discussions about values and actions happen weekly.
Rally this Thursday for just one hour for democracy, and help us collect socks for the homeless in the process.
Attend a meeting of the Healthcare (this Wednesday) or Climate Crisis Group
Join The Sum of Us book discussion on Jan. 17th.
Set your personal goals for candidate petitioning later this winter.
Volunteer to help with the Welcome wagon project to connect with newly registered Dems in Oneida & Herkimer counties
The late bell hooks, who passed away last month, believed that love and connection were the foundations of social change and the transformation of the the political world. She famously wrote that "What we do is more important than what we say or what we believe."
This year, let's stay connected in love, and together, let's do something to make political change.
