IMV Endorsed Kamala Harris for President!
Thanks to all of you who responded to our poll between Friday and Monday. 98% of you voted to endorse Harris, with 2% expressing a preference to maintain our practice of not endorsing candidates. We sent a press release to local media on July 29th announcing our endorsement. Here is an excerpt:
ONEIDA AND HERKIMER COUNTIES, NY: Indivisible Mohawk Valley, a local grassroots organization active in Oneida and Herkimer counties, has issued an endorsement for Kamala Harris for President.
“Indivisible Mohawk Valley is excited to endorse and support Kamala Harris for President. She will be a champion for reproductive freedom, protecting voting rights, creating new jobs, fighting the climate crisis, and strengthening Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. We will get out the vote to put a woman in the oval office and shatter that glass ceiling once and for all!”
The press release included several statements from IMV members about why you are excited about Kamala Harris for President:
“It's about time we had a woman, especially a woman of color to be president to turn this country around! She fights for women's rights and freedom compared to Trump's far-right extremist policies,” says Jacqueline from West Edmeston.
“She is a competent, intelligent young woman committed to policies that positively affect Americans, protect their rights, and protect our planet,” says Joan from Rome.
“Although Biden has been a great President, Kamala will be a breath of young air and perhaps even better!” says Lewellyne from Utica.
“With the attack on women right now, now is the time for a female president,” says Mary from Waterville.
“She has reinvigorated the campaign. She is eminently qualified, and she can continue to promote President Biden's work and the goals of the Democratic party, which, incidentally, square with the 6 goals of the US Constitution,” says Pat from Little Falls.
“We need this fresh new energy that is representative of inclusion, diversity, and belonging. The future is female and the future is now!” says Sean from Deerfield.
“Time for our nation to truly move forward, and she will do that,” says Tim from Frankfort.
“Our democracy and my ability to access affordable healthcare and prescription drugs depend on her candidacy. Her message will resonate with protecting middle class and underserved communities,” says Dawn in Utica.
“Kamala is so qualified to be President and with her fearless prosecutor hat, she can save our Democracy from the wannabe dictator,” says Sue from Clinton.
“Reproductive Freedoms are essential,” says Jamie from Whitesboro.
“Time to turn over the reins to a younger generation,” says Carol in New Hartford.
The press release also announced our Honk for Harris Rally today, and so we need a big crowd for any press who cover our event!
Postcard Parties Underway
Our goal is to write 1000 postcards to local women voters who need a nudge to vote, writing 200 each week on Thursdays, Aug. 1- 29. Thanks to everyone who came to the first party yesterday--15 of you who wrote cards very quickly! We'll have more to write next time! Here's the schedule for the remaining dates:
IMV Postcard Parties (Thursdays in August)
Thursday August 8, 15, 22, 29
4:00-5:30 pm
New Hartford Library

Join the Parade in Little Falls for Paula Collins!
PLEASE JOIN the Herkimer Democrats and Paula Collins for Congress as they march in the Little Falls Canal Days Parade on Friday, August 9th. Parade starts at 6pm. The car (a red VW or look for our banner, too) will be somewhere between William and Jackson on Gansevoort Street. Any walkers can be in Ward's Square and just join by the library. ALL ARE WELCOME! Dems and Independents and yes, Republicans who support our candidates! Wear patriotic colors! LETS SHOW UP!
Canvass for Our Candidates
So many of you have come out to canvass for Democratic candidates in the past week. Let's keep it up! There are weekend shifts available Saturdays and Sundays, and weekday shifts scheduled for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays starting now and continuing through August. Just sign up and then show up! Each canvass shift starts with the training you need to feel comfortable going out. If you want to go out at different times you can stop by the office at the Democratic headquarters --238 Genesee Street in Utica-- to pick up materials.
Currently the canvasses are happening in Whitestown and Utica. However, if you want to canvass in a different area--closer to where you live, or you want to work on a rural driving turf, just let Dylan DePaul know at dylan@nydems.org and he will prepare a turf for you and you can pick up your slate card and candidate literature and do your thing!
Face to face conversations at doors --that's the number one more important way to impact election results. Be sure you sign up today. We hope that IMV activists will volunteer for a weekend and a weekday shift each week.

Messaging & Reminders
At our recent IMV meeting we shared some Amplify ads and said we'd continue to share them. Here's one that came out this week: https://www.amplify-freedom.com/allc4/notgoingback. If you want to share on social media, please do some from the Indivisible Mohawk Valley Facebook page where there is approved framing to message the ad. If you have been hearing that access to the American dream--lower prices, affordable housing and healthcare, and the rich paying their fair share-- is the issue top of mind for family and friends in your network, here is a good economic message ad for them.
We hope to see as many of you as possible spreading the joyful enthusiasm for Kamala Harris at our rally TODAY in Utica. If you're disappointed that you are out of town and have to miss the big rally of the summer, then mark Friday, August 9th 4-5 pm on your calendar. The Kirkland Democrats are having a rally in support of Kamala Harris and the NYS Equal Rights Amendment on the Clinton Village green. All are welcome!
Finally, congratulations to our IMV friend and former NY22 representative in Congress, Judge Anthony Brindisi, who was nominated this week by President Biden to serve as federal district court judge. Great news!
We look forward to seeing you at the Honk for Harris Rally today and the IMV Annual Potluck Picnic on Thursday, August 8th!
Remember all are welcome to join CAFE Fridays (on Zoom every Friday morning) and be sure to bring a friend if you decide to write postcards on Thursdays or canvass throughout the week!
