Prop 1, The NY ERA: Help Spread the Word

From Sarah Reeske:
Here are three actions you can take to help get the word out to voters about the NY Equal Rights Amendment, a constitutional amendment on the ballot that is designed to protect all New Yorkers from discrimination.

1) Talk to your neighbors about voting yes on Prop 1 with Indivisible's Neighbor2Neighbor (N2N) tool!  Have you tried it out yet? Sign up and get a list of 10 friendly neighbors nearest you. These voters are low to medium propensity Democrats who do not live with a Republican. This is available to everyone in New York! Preview the English and Spanish handouts here

Here's a video about how I talk about Prop 1 at the doors if it would be helpful for you.

2) Another great action is to join an upcoming Prop 1 phone bank! I joined last week when Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand was on to kickoff the call and thank everyone for taking about Prop 1 with voters. Sign up for any upcoming Wednesday shift using this Mobilize link. We have Rep. Grace Meng joining on 10/9 and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer joining on 10/16 so far! If calling on another day would be better for you, let me know and I'll send you everything you need to dial on your own time.

3) New! Invite people you know to attend this "What is Prop 1?" Zoom on October 15th. It's open to everyone. Register here.

Lawn Signs for Prop 1 should be available for distribution in Oneida and surrounding counties after Oct. 9th.  We will have more information about pickup locations then.

One Easy Petition to Sign for Climate

The New York State Legislature recently passed the Climate Superfund Act. Remember hearing about it during the legislative session? It’s the bill that would require major polluters to pay for the climate damages they've caused.

Now, the Climate Superfund Act is sitting on Governor Kathy Hochul's desk awaiting her signature. We need to show the Governor that her constituents demand bold climate action, corporate accountability, and protection from the worst effects of the climate crisis.

Will you please sign our petition urging Governor Hochul to sign the Climate Superfund Act?

Canvass News from Dylan at Dem HQ

IMV is committed to direct voter contact--talking and listening and connecting to people as a way to help them feel engaged in the process and hopeful about the difference they can make.

The voter education slate cards we design are the most important tool we use so that voters have all the information they need to feel empowered to vote: who, what, where, when, and how.  But we need to put that information in their hands with a small and warm conversation.  We hope you'll sign up for a shift with Dem HQ and join us.

 Looking Ahead:

Postcard Update: Yesterday was the final Thursday Postcard Party at the New Hartford Library.  IMV Steering Committee is planning one more blow out postcard party, probably on the weekend of Oct 5th or 6th. Please keep alert for notification. And when you're in stores, buy some Halloween candy. We'll collect it at the postcard party for handing out to kiddos at Harvest on the Hill at the end of October.  Thanks to everyone who has donated time, stamps, and money to buy stamps!

Harvest on the Hill on Saturday, Oct. 26th: We look forward to hosting our "Kids Vote" Table at the event on James Street in Cornhill once again.  This is a very important voter outreach event for us.  We give out candy, help kids vote for their favorite candy, superhero, etc. and also talk to their family members about voting or registering to vote.  Oct. 26th is both the last day to register to vote for this election (if someone walks into an early voting location) and the first day of early voting.  So we have an opportunity to encourage voters to go straight to the polls with their kids in costumes!
This is a really fun event.  You can donate candy at upcoming IMV events, and we also need a bunch of volunteers. Here's the sign up sheet.

2024 IMV Post-election Fall Fiesta, Saturday, Nov. 9th: 1-3 pm, Save the date!
Every year we gather after the election and celebrate all the hard work our members and candidates have done.  Once again we'll meet at the JCC in Utica.  More details to come!

There are just 40 days to go until Election Day!
