Don't Let the Dream Die: We honor Dr. King

The Fight for Voting Rights Is Not Over

Do not for a second get distracted by Sen. Sinema's very bad, fact deficient speech on the Senate floor or Sen. Manchin's constant whining.  The pressure on them is mounting, and the people are leading the way.  This fight is not over.  In fact, you can join it at this critical moment.  Please Join IMV as we take action (via Zoom) Saturday, Jan. 15th, 11:00-11:30 am:  Don’t Let the Dream Die: Call to Action to Save Democracy.

Saturday, Jan. 15th is Dr. King’s 83rd birthday.  No one fought for voting rights with Dr. King longer or more faithfully than John Lewis; he worked for civil rights from the time he was a teenager, was beaten nearly to death in Selma, and fought to expand voting rights for 17 terms in Congress until he died at age 80.  The bill that bears John Lewis' name is before the Senate this weekend, when the nation commemorates Dr. King's birthday, and Democratic Senators must unite to end the filibuster in order to pass it.

We are coming together on Zoom to honor Dr. King, and make calls to our Senators to demand that they pass the bill.  Stay warm inside on this cold day and let’s TAKE ACTION TOGETHER!  The work of civil rights and real democracy did not die with Dr. King.  Remember, what you are doing today is what you would have been doing then. Something or… nothing?   Join us tomorrow morning on Zoom to DO SOMETHING.

Bring a piece of paper with your message on it for when we take a photo.  Click

Start Calling Today: Voting Rights & Climate

Whether you can join CAFE Friday this morning or not, we still ask that you make your IMV weekly calls today--for voting rights and Build Back Better, and to fund climate protections with the CCIA in New York.

Please use our one sheet call script, and make your calls today.  Calling Matters!

If you want to have a better understanding of the combined voting rights bill that the House passed yesterday,
here is a great explainer.

Take Action for the NY Health Act

We now have an active IMV Health Care Workgroup.  Next meeting is Wednesday, Feb. 2nd.

Sarah Reeske's #AllTheThings

Not sure you're up on everything that is happening with Indivisible NY State, and the opportunities that we have to get engaged? You can always check out Organizer Sarah Reeske's updated #AllTheThings doc that covers the upcoming Rural Organizing training and what's going on in some of IMV's fellow New York progressive activist groups.

It's cold. Omicron is everywhere. It's a great month to stay home and do virtual events and trainings. The DCC has partnered with the NY State Dems to hold trainings on how to effectively organize party committees, reach constituents with VAN, and win elections. Check out the calendar below for Jan 25 and 27. We know that local elections is ultimately how we preserve our democracy and protect it from the Trumpist Republicans who are trying to destroy it.

And of course, make sure that you have IMV's January meeting on your calendar. We meet Sunday, Jan. 23rd 3-5 pm--on Zoom. We will see you all on Saturday morning for our Don't Let the Dream Die Virtual Call to Action event. Be sure to bring your 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper with a message for a group photo, and ask your friends to join you.
