All In For Kamala Harris!

We're All In for Kamala Harris!

Indivisible National has issued a statement and endorsement of Kamala Harris for President. It is now mobilizing the movement with actions to take. One is for local groups to endorse Harris for President to show that not only does she have the support of Democratic party officials and electeds but also the grassroots, and the wider the coverage of support, the better. This week the IMV steering committee discussed this ask as IMV has never set up an endorsement process. The reason is that we haven’t had elections where public facing support in the form of an endorsement would have helped a candidate. Our strength has been in showing up to do the work.

In this situation however, we believe that people who are fired up about Kamala being at the top of the presidential ticket who live in our area should know about IMV and come take action with us. We want Brandon Williams knowing that people in Oneida and Herkimer counties are going to turn out and vote for Harris. An IMV endorsement would be sent to the Harris for President campaign as well as our local press with the intention being they see the value in covering our narrative, new people seeing it, and wanting to get involved with our group.

So, we’re asking IMV members to participate in a voting form before Monday, July 29th at 5pm.

A "yes" vote means that you support IMV endorsing Harris for President.

A "no" vote means that you do not want IMV to endorse Harris for President.

A "no endorsement precedent" means that you want IMV to stick to our precedent of not endorsing candidates.

Use this link to vote.

The second ask from Indivisible is for groups to hold celebratory events supporting Harris for President. IMV will host a Honk for Harris rally on Friday, August 2nd from 4-5:30pm at Oneida Square in Utica. Bring signs in support of Kamala Harris. We always provide extras, so join us. Register using this Mobilize link, and share it with your friends. Help get the word out to people excited for Kamala Harris to come to our rally.

Not inspired enough?  Check out the first official Harris for President ad and share it by email and on social media. Then vote to endorse and register for our Honk for Harris Aug. 2 rally!

Canvass for Our Candidates

So many of you have come out to canvass for Democratic candidates in the past week. Let's keep it up! There are weekend shifts available Saturdays and Sundays, and weekday shifts scheduled for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays starting now and continuing through August.  Just sign up and then show up!   Each canvass shift starts with the training you need to feel comfortable going out.  If you want to go out at different times you can stop by the office at the Democratic headquarters --238 Genesee Street in Utica-- to pick up materials.

If you've been at the doors since Sunday, you know that voters are energized about having an exciting candidate at the top of the ticket, and they are understanding about the fact that we have not had time to update the slate card. They really appreciate learning about the candidates new to them--people like John Mannion and James Meyers--and about the NY ERA constitutional amendment that they can vote on this year.

Face to face conversations at doors --that's the number one most important way to impact election results.  Be sure you sign up today.  We hope that IMV activists will volunteer for a weekend and a weekday shift each week.

Meet Your Neighbors with Neighbor2Neighbor

Recently, Indivisible rolled out a well tested and proven tool for talking with voters that is even more effective than regular canvassing because you do it in your own neighborhood.  The program is called Neighbor to Neighbor and while it is not available everywhere in the US, it is available across New York because our state is so important when it comes to flipping the House this fall.

As some of our IMV members can tell you, it is easy to sign up, and easy to do.  It's just 10 doors!  And you won't be talking to MAGA Republicans. You'll be assigned Democrats in your neighborhood who have been unreliable voters.  Talking to them draws them into the process in this critical voting cycle and gives them a connection to why voting matters to their own neighbors--including you!

There are materials to hand the voters and to leave at the door if you miss them. You can print them out, or we have copies already printed. Just email IndivisibleMV@gmail.com if you want us to provide the printed materials to you.  Sign up right now and get started on your 10 targeted neighbors.  Those conversations will also just build your own local neighborhood network. And that is how local community is made and nurtured!

P.S. We are planning one or more ice cream parties to celebrate our N2N efforts. Stay tuned!

We can't wait to see everyone at our annual potluck picnic!  Here are the details:

Thursday, August 8th
5:30-7:30 pm
Sherrill Brook Park

4191 New York State Rt. 12. New Hartford
Birch pavilion (nearest playground)

  • Don’t bring desserts- IMV is providing a “Happy retirement Brandon Williams” chocolate cake

  • There are no outlets, so we can’t heat up food. Bring your dish ready to eat.

  • If you have an extra portable table, bring it; we’ll put the food on tables outside of the pavilion to make more room for seating.

  • Family friendly--kids and other family are invited!

  • Candidates come to speak. It’s very social and a great time.  We take a big group photo. See you there!

 Final Reminders for the week:

1) Cast your vote for IMV to issue its first ever endorsement: Kamala Harris for President!
2) Register & Show up for our IMV Honk for Harris Rally on Friday, Aug. 2, 4-5:30 pm.  We'll be at our most iconic public location: Oneida Square in Utica.  That's where we showed up to support refugees and immigrants countless times over the years, stood against white supremacy after Charlottesville, and during Black Lives Matter events, Marched for Our Lives against gun violence, protested Donald Trump's lawlessness and called for his impeachment, decried the caging of children by the Trump administration, advocated for economic justice for workers and poor people, called for an adequate response to the climate crisis, and demanded women's reproductive freedom and equality.
3) Mark your calendar for upcoming fundraisers, canvass shifts, postcard parties, and our IMV Potluck Picnic on Aug. 8th.  There are so many ways to plug in, connect to like-minded people, and impact this election in a positive way.  This week’s calendar is packed with events.  Don't miss out!
