Voting Rights and Election Reform
We believe that voting is the foundation of our democracy and that every vote counts. Voting is how we elect good people with good ethics to make good government so they can pass legislation and advocate for a reality where our values are lived truths.
We must safeguard our democracy by preserving and expanding the right to vote for every eligible citizen. Through practical policy proposals, advocacy, and engagement with the public, we need to ensure that voting is free, fair, and accessible for all Americans.
Because of our values, we trust Black people; we follow Black people; and, we love hard on Black people. We commit to continuous learning on how to be anti-racist and accomplices to end oppression of Black people and people of color in America.
Because of our values, we advocate for bold solutions to the climate emergency and climate justice. Black and brown communities are impacted the most by climate change. Divesting from the fossil fuel industry is a must. America needs to rejoin the Paris Agreement.
Because of our values, we advocate for a healthcare system in America that is inclusive, anti-racist, high-quality, affordable and available to everyone. People have bodily autonomy, which should not be legislated against.
Because of our values, we advocate for a people-first immigration policy that prioritizes health and safety of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. A comprehensive, streamlined, and simple process for them to become U.S. citizens is needed now. We want to defund hate by lowering funding for ICE and CBP. Diversity is a strength in our community.
Because of our values, we advocate for adequate and owed funding for school districts in the Mohawk Valley. We want school boards to hire more diverse teaching staff and have culturally appropriate curriculum for students.
We want to see policy solutions reflective of our values and these truths. If you are passionate and fired up about these issues, connect with fellow IMV members on being a part of the working groups by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
